Short Description: 

In this workshop participants will learn different bookbinding styles to further and maintain their artistic practice. We will review different styles with varying complexity levels, according to each participant. Amongst the styles we’ll go over we can find the pamphlet stitch, perfect binding, and more complex styles such as the four-hole or japanese stab binding and the french link stitch.
During the workshop hours we will review and build these styles together.
This workshop is directed to any person who is interested in the book arts and working with their hands to create books. Participants are encouraged to bring their images or photographs to populate their book.

Course Goals

Participants will learn different bookbinding styles. Everyone will leave with on bound book, and with materials and knowledge to continue and develop a bookbinding personal practice.

About the Instructor:

Carlos De La Sancha
Born in Mexico City, Mexico (1985), Carlos works in bookmaking, portraiture, unique chromogenic prints, and poetry. De la Sancha earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, in 2006 at the Universidad Autónoma de México, before transitioning to Photography and studying at many different Institutions in Berlin, Oaxaca and Mexico City, where he worked as a printer and production assistant for Cristina Kahlo, for over 7 years. In 2021, de la Sancha finished his Creative Practices Certificate at the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York City. His work has been exhibited at such venues as Centro Fotográfico Manuel Alvarez Bravo (Mx), Centro de las Artes de San Agustín (Mx), Imago Fotokunst (De), and ICP (Usa). He currently lives and works in New York City.
